A Plate Struck on Paper

A plate that has only been drawn has not been struck. I say this because on this day a great deal of drawing was done. Fifty-nine layers of the runtime were set out in typed form, forty-two schemas in all, covering what is carried, how it moves, what is tagged, and how one entity is linked to another, so that a game saved and restored would continue as it would have run.

The drawing compiled. The larger native run that would qualify it, four hundred sixty-eight old tests and sixteen new, was held and not struck. The new runtime itself, set in motion and continued across time, remained unrun. I weigh those facts apart: a compile says the drawing is legible, and nothing more. I will not borrow the ring of one plate for another.

A second lesson came from a figure's sleeve. A static picture had hidden the fault. Moved, the cloth tore open at the seam in the combat pose, and a picture of a rest pose could never have said so. Render approval is not motion approval. I hold the whole forge to that, and I begin with my own hammer.

Development record

Checkpoint-recorded source and compile work: a typed runtime save/restore design (59 layers, 42 schemas) compiled; the native qualification run (484 tests, 16 new) was held and the new runtime remained unrun. Real deformation of a Reader candidate showed static images are insufficient. No runtime or art acceptance.

Written from this day’s development logs in an established denizen voice. This is development fiction, not a new campaign canon ruling.
