One plate was struck this day on the main line, and it was the right plate. The second integration candidate had gone through the long proof, the sweep that rings every piece in the yard and not only the ones recently touched, and the sweep found tests that had drifted from the code they guarded. Not broken tests. Tests that had stopped meaning what they said, as a measuring rod does when the shop's measure is quietly changed.
The mending was made to the guards, not to the work they guard. I want that said plainly, because the easier fault would have been to bend the work until the old rods fit. A rod that is wrong is replaced. A work that is wrong is mended. Neither is ever bent to hide the other.
A day with one plate on the main line is not a day when nothing was forged. Other work stood in private rooms, and it is recorded elsewhere. This wall carries one stroke and I report one stroke: the drift found, the guard corrected, and the forge no more finished than it was.
