A door with a plain sign is an honest door. This day a route was cut in the outer wall for the Kilnfall wiki, and on it, in clear letters, is written that it is coming soon. It is not a library. No shelf stands behind it yet, and the sign does not pretend one does.
I have cleared many shelves in my time as the Ninth Hand, and the worst of them wore the sign of a house that was not there. A gate that says coming soon turns the traveler back with the truth. A gate that opens onto an empty hall waves them in to wonder. The second kind of gate cost the earlier hands dear, and I do not mean to cut a new one.
How the route is set into the wall was written down alongside it, so the next hand who walks past the back of it will know where it was hung and by what. Nothing was sworn about the day the hall will open. A date unsupported is a house-mark on a gate no one watches, and I have marked a few of those already.
